ABOUT THE MARATHON

Overview

The Enugu City International Marathon is a premier road race designed to elevate Enugu’s status as a global sports destination while promoting athletic excellence, tourism, and community engagement. Scheduled for May 3, 2025, the marathon will bring together elite international athletes, indigenous runners, and fitness enthusiasts to compete on a meticulously planned route that showcases Enugu’s scenic landscapes, historic landmarks, and vibrant culture.

Endorsed by the Enugu State Government under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and managed by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, the marathon aspires to meet World Athletics accreditation standards, positioning it among the top long-distance races worldwide.

The marathon will kick off at Shoprite along Abakaliki Road, setting the stage for an exhilarating race through the heart of the city. Participants will navigate a dynamic route that includes Abakaliki Lane, Ilogu Street, Kingsway Road, Mgbemene Road, Coal Camp Road, Ogbunike Street, Zik Avenue, Market Road, Presidential Road, Amang Street, Nkportiti Road, NTA Road, Independence Avenue, Mbamu Mbanefo Street, Chime Street, and Ebe-Ano. The race will culminate in a thrilling finish at Okpara Square, ensuring an electrifying atmosphere for both runners and spectators.

Leading up to race day, a week-long marathon expo will be held from April 25 to May 1, 2025, providing runners with an opportunity to collect their race kits while engaging with sponsors, health experts, and fitness brands. The Enugu City International Marathon is more than just a race—it is a celebration of endurance, passion, and community spirit, marking a new era for sports in Enugu.
