ABOUT THE MARATHON

Overview

The Enugu City International Marathon is a premier road race designed to elevate Enugu’s status as a global sports destination while promoting athletic excellence, tourism, healthy living, and community engagement. Scheduled for August 29, 2026, the marathon will bring together elite international athletes, indigenous runners, fitness enthusiasts, and corporate teams to compete on professionally measured race courses that showcase Enugu’s scenic landscapes, historic landmarks, and vibrant culture.

Endorsed by the Enugu State Government under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and managed by Nilayo Sports Management Limited, the marathon aspires to meet World Athletics accreditation standards, positioning it among Africa’s leading long-distance road races and attracting participants from across the globe.

The event will feature two race categories: the flagship 42KM Marathon and the 10KM Road Race. The newly calibrated 42KM route has been professionally designed to meet international standards and will provide athletes with a world-class racing experience across the city of Enugu. The 10KM route remains unchanged and continues to offer an exciting and accessible challenge for recreational runners and fitness enthusiasts.

As part of the build-up to race day, a city-wide Fitness Drive will be held on August 1, 2026, encouraging residents, corporate organizations, schools, and fitness communities to embrace active lifestyles and participate in the marathon experience.

A week-long Marathon Expo and Race Kit Collection will take place from August 24 to August 28, 2026. The Expo will serve as a hub for runners, sponsors, exhibitors, health professionals, sports brands, and visitors, offering race kit collection, health and wellness activations, product showcases, networking opportunities, and engagement activities leading up to race day.

The Enugu City International Marathon is more than just a race—it is a celebration of endurance, resilience, unity, and community spirit. It represents a bold step in positioning Enugu as a premier destination for sports tourism, economic development, and international sporting excellence while creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
