Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Nigeria’s premier sports marketing and event management agency, has officially announced that the highly anticipated second edition of the Enugu City International Marathon will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Building on the resounding success of its inaugural edition, the 2026 marathon returns to the historic and scenic landscape of Enugu State with an inspiring and forward-looking roadmap. This year’s edition will be prosecuted under the official theme: “Tomorrow Runs Here.” The theme reflects a core commitment to youth empowerment, sustainable athletic development, and positioning Enugu as a vibrant hub for international sports tourism and economic growth.
The Enugu City International Marathon is designed to discover and nurture indigenous long-distance running talent while bringing world-class elite athletes into the Coal City. The 2026 route is meticulously structured to showcase Enugu’s rich cultural landmarks, urban infrastructure, and welcoming topography, offering a world-class experience for professional runners, fitness enthusiasts, and spectators alike.
Speaking on the milestone, the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited stated:
“The Enugu City International Marathon is an elite athletic competition, as much as it is a catalyst for economic revitalization and human capability development in the region. As we gather thousands of runners again for this edition under the theme ‘Tomorrow Runs Here,’ we are establishing a platform where future champions discover their strength, and where local communities get to experience the transformative power of sports marketing. As race consultants, we are working closely with the Enugu State Government, the property owner, through the visionary leadership of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, to ensure a seamless, secure, and globally compliant event that will build on the success of the inaugural edition, as we continue on the drive to set a new standard for road races in West Africa.”
Nilayo Sports Management Limited confirms that comprehensive logistics, inter-ministerial collaborations, and regulatory alignments are currently underway for the success of this race. The technical deployment team is already working in close synergy with state environmental, transport, and security agencies to guarantee a hitch-free operational framework on race day.
Registration begins on Monday, the 15th of June, with prize money structures remaining the same from the first edition. While the 10KM route remains the same, the new route map for the 42KM elite category and the community fitness runs will be unveiled to the public in the coming weeks.
